Hello AIS1; my name is Lt. Jackie Morning, I am the Master of Arms on board the Maverick's Luck. I know you won't mind when I tell you that I spoke to Inq. Ovichnnikov and managed to not only keep the acquired Specter Class Vehicle on board as a Maverick's Luck asset, but i have also pulled some strings and to give AIS1 priority requisition rites to the vehicle, your welcome.

This is a friendly but professional message to AIS1: you can expect the continued quality services of myself and my team as long as you follow my platinum rules.

A pleasure to make the acquaintance of our Master at Arms. I will be sure to come and acquaint myself with your preferred operation methods so that we may engage in an effective working relationship. 

Regarding the "Specter", i would ask if an alternate, non-warp-based power supply has been successfully implemented? 

If not, i recommend this course of action for possible radioactivity type reasons, and also we don't want it.

Apparently i need to refer to your wisdom from now on, as apparently i don't know how to do my job. A warp powered vehicle? that couldn't possibly be a threat to the Maverick's security. Moreover, i wouldn't be offering a Recruit Squad exclusive rights to said vehicle, if it remained such a threat to the security and well being of all operatives on the Maverick. Which is to say the wibbily-wobboly part of the vehicle in question has been removed with delicate but extreme prejudice and handed over to the science nuts on 8.

furthermore, this "working relationship" will go fine if you follow my platinum rules and stop telling me how to do my job.

Forgive my foolishness in Not-Taking-Risks regarding Wibbly-Wobbly Warp-teach. I was unaware that The Order Hereticus was in the habit of making assumptions on such matters. I will be sure to take this into account on the ground, and promptly take your inferred recommendation to ignore any such queries as just some fool presuming to tell me how to investigate Heresy. 

Suffice to say Lieutenant, after witnessing the vehicle in question in the field, i have a caution bordering on the paranoid about going near, let alone having to get in one. Given that you work explicitly as part of the Imperial entity in charge of such matters, i have full faith in your ability to deal with such matters, but none the less i was not willing to go near that vehicle without written confirmation by none other than yourself that it is secure. 

I like to think of it as a healthy distrust of anything warp or psy related.

Your "foolishness" is forgiven, but apparently you need to be reminded of the protocols that follow your debriefing. The short of it is Recruit, is that you tell someone important what happened dirt side and that important individual then distributes the information and new tasks to other personnel specializing in certain areas. In this case, when you and the rest of the AIS1 recruit team brought back the wibbily and the wobboly, very important people listened to your opinion on the matter and handed the information and items over to specialized personnel, Me.

In closing i would offer you some advice. Refer to you recruitment manual for mission protocol and command structure, before you engage in presumptuous conversations with superior officers. However I will commend you on your survival instincts to avoid or at least be cautious around the wibbily wobbolies, especially if you have no idea what it is.

Lt. Morning contemplating a punishment worthy of the insubordination shown, was defused when she was informed that Severian had not yet been issued with a Recruit Manual. Tossing her heavy duty encased data slate to one side, Morning promptly picked up a wrench.

You! yes you! did you know we have new recruits on board?

Ah, yes mam. For almost a week now i think.


with uncanny timing, as soon as the man finished his pondering statement, a wrench hit him in the chest, sweeping him off his feet.

5 recruits have been muppeting around on the Maverick without knowing the protocols for "nearly a week". You have exactly 1 hour to have them outfitted and equipped or so help me emperor i will use you as a rhino timing belt.

The man scurried to his feet leaping for the uniforms and standard item lockers

May I request that the Spectre be outfitted with a vox-array in that event that we need to motivate a large number of civilians? If that is not feasible, may I request a replacement laud hailer capable servo-skull? An enemy combatant took offence to my last one.

You should not speak lightly of the foul depths of the universe Lieutenant. I had thought that someone working for the God Emperor's Holy Inquisition would refrain from such devious language. I shall adjust my expectations accordingly.

AIS1 Recruit Caradoc

Telling superior officers what to do, say, and how to act must be a mutually enjoyed past time for you new recruits. I will recommend a more intensive induction training program to Cpt. Morroe, to help you spend that extra energy each of you seem to currently be using to run your mouths off. Moreover, I cannot be bothered entering yet another benign discussion with someone who has clearly been issued boots far to big for his britches, a problem i will remedy immediately. Instead Ill skip to the part where, like Severian, i ask you to refer to your Inquisition Recruit Manual. A item i know for a fact, you now have.

In addition, I cannot say i am surprised that someone reacted with such hostility towards your Orator Class: Servo Skull. My only thought is this incident would not have occurred if the skull was being operated properly. Consequently you and your entire AIS1 outfit need to pass your Servo Skull Operations Training, Again, before anyone can requisition a Servo Skull. In addition Caradoc, you must complete a full detailed report explaining why your previous Orator Skull was destroyed.

Lieutenant Morning,

I can tell when someone is frustrated and bored so I'll leave you well enough alone. And I doubt Captain Morroe can punish us much more than our first couple of missions. As for you being a superior, well, all are equal in the eyes of the Emperor.

If you would like a full report as to what happened to my last servo-skull, I'm afraid that is classified. Inquisitor Ovichnikov might indulge you and provide the details to you but, suffice to say, an enemy of the Imperium rejected the holy words of the Emperor with violence.

I can attend your office in person if you wish to discuss this further. Hindering a member of the Inquisition in performing their duties, even by obfuscating and refusing the assignment of equipment, is not looked on favourably. Or so I have heard.

May the Emperor visit his wrath upon our enemies swiftly.

Recruit, you have clearly been miss informed. Otherwise, despite my polite suggestion you have ignored my advice to read through your Recruitment manual.

As the Master of Arms aboard the Maverick, i have clearance:
To all mission details
To condition the distribution of equipment based on prior use and conduct
To require any personnel wishing to requisition equipment or repair to complete necessary documentation and/or training

This is because, and again i remind you, I am the one who equips and outfits all AIAs aboard the Maverick.

So refusal to complete the necessary documentation and training required of you and now your entire outfit is "obfuscating and refusing" to adhere the protocols and conduct expected of AIAs aboard the Maverick.

Though i clearly don't have to remind you as you diligently pointed out yourself that obstructing a Inquisitorial Agent, moreover a superior officer is not looked on favorably.

Also i would like to point out that the Missions you have been on, are the standard. It is not punishment, it is in fact your job and duty to our lord emperor, the inquisition and all of humanity. One that would be made more difficult with a lack of equipment, should you fail to provide the Documents and complete the training previously mentioned.

You misunderstand. I was not refusing to complete the training under Captain Morroe or the documents that are required. Please see attached for these completed documents and my signature, as required under Paragraph 81(b) of Section 20 of the Recruitment Manual. Captain Morroe has already notified AIS 1C and made preparations for training, which will be completed without complaint.

As for my previous request for equipment, consider it withdrawn. I will make do with what the Emperor provides.

A weapon cannot substitute for zeal.

The hour was approaching, and correcting Severians new dishevelled look was burning precious minuets. The training regime was unkind, if not unexpected. Sev found himself again missing life as an officer in the Militarum Ministorum.

The Inquisition offered something the Ministorum could not however, he reminded himself. Repeating the Litany of Vengeance in his mind, Sev finished un-mopping his hair, and set about making his uniform look as presentable as possible.

He was glad His squads assault specialist was faster for once. She was clearly more suited to the uniform than Sev, but made a perfect example to compare to.


Finishing up, he turned to Castella
"Ok, good enough. Lets go, Q-store appointments in 30 and it takes 20 to get there. Best not be tardy, we need to set a better impression"

Castella's brow furrowed as she regarded Severian critically, then reached out to straighten his collar with a sharp little tug. "There, that's better. You'd think you'd never had to dress yourself before," she commented dryly. "And if we're late, it'll be your fault, not mine."

She began walking along with Sev, her stride a little more steady than before, now that she'd had more time to acclimatise to the bionic legs. "Why in the Emperor's holy name did you and Caradoc decide to piss off the QM, anyway? Life was already too boring now that we're not eyeball deep in a warzone?" Her words had no real heat behind them though - it was more just a way to pass the time. "I just hope you both don't end up dragging me down with you."

"That is rather the point. Q's wrath is rather indiscriminate it would seem. Data messages cannot portray tone, but i could have dug my own self out. I fear our Zealot-Brother may have put his foot in it. After the mission i don't think he knows how to 'turn off' anymore", a wave of melancholy overtook Severian, but he quickly suppressed it.

"Time to get in character." Sev sighed, as they entered the empty cargo elevator to the Quartermaster store. "I hate this. This place. but the only way to work with any political system is by integrating with it." He looked at Cas "Not your forte id usually say, but i think this case may be uniquely suited to you. I'll take the lead, but you will need to take charge, Squad Sargent."

Castella gave Severian a flat look. "Do I even want to know what you and the good father got up to?"

She followed him into the cargo elevator, then blinked and stared at him as the doors shut behind them. "Wait, what? Me, squad sergeant? Damn right it's not my forte, what in the Emperor's holy balls are you thinking? I'm not sergeant material! My job is to hit things!"

"We are soldiers in an army now. In the field, you can stick to hack and slash to your hearts content, but on base... your the only one Guardsman in our squad." Severian said, mentally prepared to meet the displeased Lieutenant.

"My time in the Militarum Ministorum is worthless hear, as a Junior officer myself, i was one of them. I don't quite know how to grunt. You do."

The elevator reached the Armory, and the pair got out. "Now, we head to... ahh, hear it is. Station 11-b. Time to wait and discover if we will be seen..."

Castella sighed and rubbed her hand over her face. "I'm beginning to regret all my life decisions..." she grumbled quietly. "And I do not grunt."

Nonetheless, as the elevator reached the armoury, she straightened back up and assumed a proper military posture before following Severian out. "You're going to owe me drinks after this," she muttered.

The automated metal doors of the  cargo elevator slid open one metal slate at a time, revealing the entire cargo bay. The cargo hold, was a open plan multi purpose facility with multiple monolithic stations housed on platforms, used for different aspects of the facility's functions. The stations where inter-connectable, but completely independent of each other using a series of colossal rail lines and mechanical arms.

The hub was alive with booming machinery, tools arching electricity and sparks and experts testing or moving various equipment. One of the stations near by was equally as busy, but looked slightly out of place in respect to the rest of the operation. filing containers, desks, a menagerie of huge to small digital screens, administration clerks and record servitors all processing the multitude of activities in the hub, from requests and returns for each mission to personnel certifications and asset QA reports.

Castella and Sev moved from the elevator and noticed they were on one of many providing access to the facility that was in constant use. It quickly became apparent that this facility worked around the clock with thousands of personnel on rotating shifts. Before they could admit to each other that they had no idea where to go, a Servo skull floated towards them with a purposeful glide. It scanned the to of them with a cascade of red lights and started playing a recorded message "Please follow me, your appointment is this way". Following the Servo Skull, Cas and Sev moved along gantries large and strong enough to facilitate two and a half tanks a breast. Hey followed their guide through the hub, belittled by the monolithic unresting operation. Personnel passed them in droves moving equipment and guiding the transport of cargo between stations or other destinations on board. Soon they arrived at the station they were looking for, 11 -B. They stepped onto the scaffolding lift which took them from the gantries to the 11 - B station platform, where a huge vehicle repair facility was perched.

Here on Station 11-B there were six inquisition chimeras, four centaurs, five Valkyries of varying classes and two Leman Russ Tanks. Housing each of these impressive vehicles were their respective skeleton sheds, stocked to bursting with an assortment of spare parts and damaged detachments. All of the vehicles here were damaged and in the repair process, some far less torn up than others. The two New Recruits surveyed their surroundings long enough to spot all the foot traffic gravitating towards a single location. As they approached, they found Lt. Morning at its center.

The Red headed woman had her wavy long hair tied back and wore her uniform to an immaculate standard. At any point in time she was dealing with nearly five subordinates, while providing direction to the team she was currently overseeing, in addition to maintaining her role as Master of Arms via her heavily customized Data Slate. The Servo Skull guide announce to the pair to wait and once acknowledged, it proceeded to float towards the Lt. Morning. Once notified, Morning pushed a few buttons on her data slate and exchanged words with those around her. She then promptly spun on her heel and locked eyes with the two recruits. As she spoke, a familiar vehicle burst into life behind her and began hovering in view behind her, just off her left shoulder.

"Well well, if it isn't the rebels without a cause. As you can see I am catastrophically busy. AIS2 found two of our agents dirt side on Arose and I rerouted as many assets to their rescue mission as possible to pull the pair out of hell. Unfortunately in the process they broke my platinum rules. Anyway, that's enough chit chat. I can only manage 5mins with you, which is the time it takes me to walk from here to Firearms station 5-C. Relevant and Lucid please, unlike many here I dont work on a rotating roster."

Severian reigned in his obvious admiration of the Operation going on around him, and indicated for the Lieutenant to lead the lead, and fell in step. "Our Cause is the Emperor's Cause mam'." Severian said with a smile.

"This is Squad lead Castella Katar, Obviously you recognize myself. Apologies for our communique, text fails to denote tone, Mam. Thus the personal meet, I am the Designated Liaison, Need to meet in person. But I'm diverging..." Severian spoke in quick clipped High Gothic, just as his Butler would have back on Kyris.

Severian pulled out his Data-slate, and brought up a list. "First up, Request for Katar to inspect the Vehicle as our teams Ground Vehicle Operator. Second, specialist equipment? Is that Automatically assigned, or does the unit have any input to requisition? The manual explained how, but I'd like to work with how you like to run your ship Mam."

Castella was nearly overwhelmed by all the activity in the facility, but she managed to keep a neutral expression and followed Severian through the bustle, still limping slightly.

As Severian introduced her to Lt. Morning, Castella saluted briskly, but remained silent as Sev kept talking, and merely nodded at the mention of vehicle inspection. Cas was grateful that she didn't have to say much - she didn't want to have to try and navigate whatever minefield Severian and Caradoc's previous interactions with the Lieutenant had left.
